In 1979, while discussing the weekend happenings in the back of a calculus class at the University of Saskatchewan, I discovered Peter Barboluk.
Peter had the same musical background as I did. We both played with family bands and both started playing professionally at the age of 14.
It should be noted that we dropped out of the Calculus 175 class...but nine years later, music brought us together.
In 1990, the group that eventually evolved into the HOT TAMALES started out as a five piece country band that never made it out of the basement. Late night rehearsals combined with conflicting schedules stunted any advancement.
Fellow rehearsee, James Mackenzie (drummer), suggested that I team up with Peter, buy the technology and run as a two man show using computers.
We took the recommendation and the rest is history.
ACCORDION CROSSING is the HOT TAMALES fourth album. It follows GREATEST HITS (1991), NEVER ENOUGH ACCORDION (1993) and POLKA FEVER (1995). Our fifth album is expected to be released in July 2005.
Although our last two albums feature POLKA MUSIC, the band when performing live is truly a party band, serving up 50's-60's, country rock, classic rock along with polkas and waltzes.
An evening may include audience participation numbers, clean comedy and some senseless banter. We enjoy performing and when the HOT TAMALES hit the stage...anything can happen...and it often does.
The HOT TAMALES are a versatile band. We perform at weddings, hockey dances,
jamborees, ladies nights, shopping malls, casinos, professional sporting events and even in grocery stores.
